To completely remove parking is to an make the area inaccessible to less abled persons. Watch UofU's ratings drop as soon as word gets around that we do not accommodate disabled or less- abled students and visitors.

Seeing how these paths are currently being used doesn't necessarily indicate how they *should* be used, or how they could be most beneficially distributed. For example, the fact that the center of campus is primarily walking, biking, and scootering is because there isn't a road that goes from the business building to the union/engineering area or from president's circle. When there was a shuttle that went from the union to the business loop and back, that was my favorite shuttle and I used it every day. It hasn't been available the last several times I have gone looking for it, so walking is the best alternative. Similarly, it's not a surprise that south campus has the bulk of the transit because that's where the trax line is. It would be great to have transit options on the north side of campus, but there are very few options available. Please take into account confounding variables as you look at these paths and make plans for the future.

Kahlert Village is such an ugly building and such a weight on this part of campus. As you consider new builds across campus, please do not do this again. It's unfortunate to know that so much good can happen at KV when it's so overshadowing in the terrible exterior.

Agreed about the mourning of OSH! That was one of my favorite buildings on campus, and nothing has replaced the utility and comfort I found in that old building. Regarding the Union, make it more useful as well. It's confusing and feels empty and unwelcoming. It took me years to know where to find any of the incredible resources available within the Union.

I would ask that all of these food comments also apply to event-space catering. Lower cost, more options, increased availability. Our event catering restrictions on campus are awful.
replies
I would add "consistent" to this. More frequent "consistent" shuttles, and all public transportation.
replies
Please always keep parking in mind with plans for our campus. Even as public transit, shuttles, and bicycle and pedestrian options increase and (hopefully) become more reliable, there will always be folks who live far away or need to be able to drive to campus for various reasons, even if only for events.

The Eccles 2002 Legacy Bridge has a bike lane that can only be accessed by elevator. The bike lane ends abruptly at the stairs. This should be accessible via a bike ramp in addition to the elevator.

I'm sentimental and I love the Union. It could use an update for sure. I'm still sad about a lot of old buildings (OSH, MBH) just being gone for new, unremarkable looking buildings. If it's not prohibitive, renovating the Union would be my preference.

YES! Ensure that there remains a lot of access and support for this hidden gem so that it can remain a haven.

Libraries. Ensure the libraries have adequate funding to renovate spaces to be the hubs we love to be.

This crossing signal is slow to respond (especially during peak rush hours) and many pedestrians don't wait until it turns red to cross.

No clear left hand turn here for bikes that want to go into East Rice Eccles Parking lot to get into campus. Lots of bikes use Guardsman and it would be nice to consider left hand turn options here.

Bike paths should be clearly marked. The current system of bike paths around campus seem disconnected. See the area below the Campus Recreation Building or near Marriott Library Plaza for examples. Bikes don't know where to go!

The Eccles Health Sciences Library is already a favorite place on the health sciences campus with many amenities and services. Don't build more without considering what is already offered here.

Suggestion
The Marriott Library is a favorite place on campus for students, faculty, and staff. Be sure to utilize the services and spaces already offered there before building new things that would simply duplicate what is already here.

Suggestion
Instead of more parking on campus, why not subsidize parking near Trax stations to make it easier to park and ride. Free parking at the 9th East Station, for example in the old Office Max parking lot would be amazing.

It seems ridiculous that this section, near the center of campus, has no connections or routes whatsoever

I would really appreciate there being more seating around campus, especially at bus and shuttle stops. My knees make it hard to walk/stand for extended periods of time, and having a place to rest during my commute would really improve my experience.

Housing is very expensive and communication between different departments seems limited. I would love it if more housing scholarships were available / the housing was more affordable in the first place.

Food is super expensive on campus, especially meal plans. I wont be getting a meal plan this year as I felt that I spent far too much with far too little return. Hours at meal halls were inconvenient, the food was inconsistent and the produce was often unwashed/damaged/had bugs. I ended up depending on transfer meals, which were often insufficient. I would really appreciate a revamp of the meal plan system- as it feels predatory and far from worth it at the moment.

Right now it's hard to get coherent information about food choices on campus, with regards to menus, hours, price etc. There are some food options run by the university on one website, and then many random vendors each doing their own thing with no central source of information, about the art museum cafe, 2 creeks cafe, red chair cafe, medical school food options, random food trucks, etc. One source of all information would be helpful.

Work to have a cohesive campus aesthetic (building exteriors / landscaping, etc.) that compliments your sustainability goals along with the beautiful butte / mountain landscape. Whatever the aesthetic, have it be on brand with the good growth you are targeting. (Too incredible of an opportunity to not make this an important element.)
replies
Suggestion
I love this point, "Diversity of vegetation and sustainable landscapes". Please reduce the amount of pointless grass space that serves no purpose except to be watered and mowed. Research park is a particular culprit. In many locations, plants that use less water will look better, require less maintenance, and improve the "Utah" feel of the university campus.

Suggestion
A lot of people want more parking, but I imagine what they really want is a reliable way to arrive at their destination. Please remember to prioritize pedestrian, bicyclist, and public transit infrastructure over parking. As these get better, less people will feel the need to use their cars in the long run, and less parking will be needed.
replies
Suggestion
Please prioritize bike paths over bike lanes. The difference is that one can bike on bike paths without interacting with cars at all, while a bike lane is often "tacked on" to an existing road used by cars. If a bike lane is being used, it needs to have a curb or some other physical separation from cars or else it won't be safe enough to encourage bicyclists to use it.

Adding Pickleball courts for students would be helpful for the community and students. We have a shortage of Pickleball courts throughout the SL city area. Keeping students on student court will open up courts in the community for the community members

One of my absolute least favorite locations...the incredible light pollution from the Stadium which bathes such a wide area of the East Bench -- here at 29th East I have to pull curtains to keep out the light which goes on and on into the night. And with the baseball stadium, it stands to be even worse. Please convert the lights to downward direction, rather than lighting up the night they way they currently do.
