The new grad student/family housing is a huge improvement. Bonneville and Clayton schools are walkable, but crossing Sunnyside (800) is awful and treacherous for young students on foot or bike. Crossing Foothill/Sunnyside to get onto campus is also insane. Adding safer pedestrian crossing, including ped/bike overpasses, in these spots would allow many more families to live near campus, travel safely to work, school or campus without a car. In summary, thinking about ways to get pedestrians/bikers/scooters onto and off of campus from feeder streets safely is essential to really reducing car traffic to and on campus.

Student housing in this location would be disassociated with any sustainable services or links to campus life. I would propose reconsideration of this space for either non residential use or potential open space. Any housing use would also likely not conform to standard acoustic considerations being adjacent to a primary hospital and evac route.

I love these ideas. Thank you for prioritizing pedestrians over cars. I like the idea of ensuring that there's a pedestrian path and bicycle path network that is connected to the TRAX station.

I currently live in the West Village of graduate housing, and I think there needs to be better options for getting across Foothill/ 500 S. As I get to central campus, whether on my bike or by foot, it really is a pain and it can take so long, not to mention that cars constantly speed and fail to watch crosswalks. There needs to be better, safer options for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Please make these campus centers as walkable as possible! Keep cars away. If these areas are intended to be outdoors, cars will ruin the experience by being noisy, unsafe, and taking up valuable space. Please implement traffic calming to reduce speeds where cars will need to drive.

I am a U alum and neighbor. The University needs greater density for student housing for a host of reasons. I strongly suggest adding more residential undergraduate housing on campus, and the encouragement, support, and expansion of the Greek system should be a huge boost to the community and to the University. The West focus area seems great. This is right in the academic core. The East seems aspirational. I just don't see students and/or anyone else congregating in this area. Of course, if you could add some bars to this area, maybe it would take off.

Question
It seems the center of campus should be the academic district? Why would the academic area, the real focus of the day-to-day University life, be ten minutes from the center of campus?

Question
Does it make campus more walking friendly to move the trax stops further from the main campus? Probably not.

Pedestrian friendly....let us please remember that there is nothing "pedestrian friendly" about walking in a 40 mph downslope wind, or driving snow or thunderstorm with lightning. It "sounds good", but is not rational!

Question
Will the proposed student housing on North Campus Dr. include parking? This street, including 100 S. is extremely busy during morning and afternoon commute times. If the student housing includes parking areas, will there be any modification/improvements to the roads in this area for the increased traffic?
